Which Pill Do You Want To Take?

Jun 27, 2022
Two open hands, each holding a different colored capsule, against a yellow background.

In the 1999 movie, the Matrix, Neo is given a pivotal choice:

The red pill or the blue pill?

With the blue pill, he can remain the same in ignorance.

With the red pill, he is willing to learn a potentially unsettling or life changing truth.

I wonder what if Neo was not a computer programmer

but instead, a doctor in 2022…

What would you choose?

What is your default?

Do you default to failure or success?

Do you default to possibility or hopelessness?

To what is Safe?

To what is Easy?

To what is known?

Through decades of education and training, our medical mindset teaches us to know it all and control everything alone and on our own.

I never made a move unless I knew where I was going and how I was going to get “there”.

Once I got “there”, I stayed in my lane of expertise and safety for years and decades of more of the same.

How much of your life is conscious and intentional?

How much is by default and on autopilot?

Are you asleep at the wheel?

Are you unconscious and sleep walking through your life?

Are you running on hopium?  Hoping life will get better?  Praying something will magically change?

Or do you really want to take back the reins of your out of control life and steer your future?

What if we don’t know everything?

What if we don’t even know what we don’t know?

If there is any lesson I have learned is that when I know better, I can do better.

Reality is that there is no magic pill except in the Matrix.  Most of us WISH it was that easy.

The only obstacle between where we are now and where we want to be is US.  Me.  You.

For me, as one of the blissfully dissatisfied, I am reminded by my patients and acutely aware that I have no crystal ball of my future or delusion of my immortality.

Add to that, something inside of me forces me to want to suck the marrow out of life as I borrow a brilliant phrase from Thoreau.

With three teenagers soon leaving home and heading to college, I have no dreams of retiring to walks in the neighborhood and daily trips to the gym.

I intend to cannonball into my next adventure.

Breaking Out of the Medical Mindset is my red pill that has ignited my next transformation.

Rather than by default, I choose to live my life by design.

How can you change your autopilot?

Clarity

Focus

Choice

I thank you for allowing me to share my fuel in BOOMM.

That is how we wake up and choose the life we dream.

By design and desire.

As Morpheus said,

“I can only show you the door, you’re the one that has to walk through it.”

Open the door!!
